Hi there, Is it generally impossible to apply the coding aspects of SEO to a website that has been created with a template/content managment system? I'm thinking I may have to convince the client to get out of that and let me design the site from the ground up....- thanks |

It all depends on what aspects of the code you're able to edit, and whether the CMS/template presents all important copy as pure text (HTML-based) and not image-based. It's a bit difficult to say without knowing exactly what CMS/template you're working with and then analying it to see how it does things. You'll find most of the SEO info you need in my ebook, . Cheers. |

I strongly agree CMS are bad for seo for the following reasons. 1. Most of the CMS generate content dynamicaly from their backend system , which leave little control of each and every page. 2. Most of them use template based page layout, which is generic in nature , customization for specific pages may be difficult. 3. As many people mentioned , they use URLs which is not spider friendly. |

Companies jump for joy at the promise of a CMS: They can update their site without hiring a web developer! They can publish quickly and easily! The internet is theirs for the taking! A few months later they're stomping their feet with rage. What do you mean our new site is driving away search engines? Why can't I edit my title tags? The salesman said it was SEO-ready!!! Here are some selection criteria that'll help you pick a content management system that's ready for search engine optimization Read more: Choosing an SEO-ready Content Management System | Internet Marketing Strategy: Conversation Marketing http://www.conversationmarketing.com/2008/08/choosing-an-seo-ready-cms.htm#ixzz0wpzI2m9L _______________________________________________________________ Want to get-on Google's first page and loads of traffic to your website?
