Hi,

I'd like to get into cold calling to generate business, but am unsure of a couple of things: -

1) do you purchase a list, or do you literally open the yellow pages and start ringing?

2) do you recommend any books etc. on understanding the basics of cold calling, the things to say and do, etc. OR do you advise just picking up the phone and going for it?

BTW. I should also mention I also registered on seek.com (presuming you're in Australia). Very occasionally freelance copywriting positions are posted. If you register, just key in 'copywriting' and out of the blue, occasionally you'll get an email. Just make sure it's from *the* company and not a recruitment agency. IME from those days, personnel agencies won't do anything for you unless you've worked on Madison Avenue or in London directly under Saatchi. As a human resource, they'll shatter your dreams and make you feel like a loser in a flash - in a pleasantly pro-active, assertive, inter-personal yet condescending way, of course! (Nope, I don't like them)
